Honestly, I didn’t plan to get this sunscreen when it was first launched. The texture looks rich in the promotional brochures. I also don’t like the fact that it has skin toning effect, which I am not fond of. Besides, I always prefer Biore over Sunplay sunscreens. I guess I would never buy this if I didn’t forget to bring my sunscreen when I was travelling back to my hometown, and I couldn’t find other sunscreens that I wanted to try when I visited the nearby Watson’s store.

The Sunplay Skin Aqua Tone Up UV Essence SPF50+ PA++++ was pretty popular in Japan before it came to Malaysia. You can see that many J-beauty dealers are actually carrying it. It is one of the top selling sunscreens in Japan.

The packaging does look pretty indeed. A tube like this has 80g worth of product inside, and will cost you around RM50-60. Not the cheapest deal ever, but reasonable. The sunscreen comes in a milky and creamy lotion consistency. It has skin toning up effect so your skin will look slightly brighter than it is when applied. However, this product absorbs well so it doesn’t really produce any white cast that we are all worried about. The product doesn’t have any alcohol scent, only some mild floral scent that I pretty enjoy having on my face.

It is also water resistant and sweat resistant, and can serve as a great makeup primer or tone corrector for you. The lavender colour is a blend of blue and pink tint for translucent and natural radiance respectively. The iridescent strobe pearl powder inside also diffuses light for a brighter and luminous complexion.Given its lightweight texture, high SPF and PA factors, as well as multi-functionality, no wonder it is the number 1 best-selling sunscreen in Cosme Japan.

Honestly, I did not regret the buy. I think this is indeed a very well-made sunscreen with nice features added to it that will attract young women. First of all, it is aesthetically pleasing. It has this nice layered design with pink, blue and lavender shades. Its toning up and correct correcting effects will make it a wonderful feature especially for those who put on makeup. It actually saves them money buying makeup base, primer or colour corrector. I also like how this is very lightweight and can be easily absorbed by the skin. It takes only 1-2 minutes to apply that required ¼ tsp amount without leaving any sticky or greasy residues on your skin. My skin is supple and soft after applying. No wonder it is the best-selling sunscreen in Japan!
Despite my initial reluctance to buy this, I actually do not regret buying this Sunplay UV Essence at all. The texture is lightweight enough for me, without leaving any undesired white cast or stickiness. The colour correcting effect is just nice and will not be too “weird” or “abrupt” when applied on my skin. I am using N21 shade though, so I am not sure how does this work on those with fairer or darker skin tone. Personally, it sits just well on my skin. I also love how it is being inexpensive considering that it costs only RM55 for 80g (Biore UV Aqua Essence costs RM30 for 50g).Above are my “first impression” of the sunscreen after using it for weeks now. I will update you guys after I finish using the sunscreen in case my opinion has changed after using it for longer period.Until then, ja-ne~!
